What I have learnt – first year of marriage

So, I have been a married chick for almost a year, which makes me reflect on the year we have had. For those of you who know me, this won’t be a surprise, on our honeymoon, we started to develop a 5 year plan, you know, where we want to be, what we want to be doing, that kind of thing. I am sure my husband was slightly freaked out by it, I just saw it as planning!

So, where are we a year in? Well, I think I have settled in well, we have managed to move into a place which houses two children (for half the time), two dogs, the two of us and all of my shoes (of which, at last count, was 130 pairs – I know I know). We have also managed to renovate two rooms (my hubby is awesome), go on a family surfing holiday and the husband is headed to University to become a Secondary School teacher – four years full time!

I learnt that I haven’t always been driven, but for some reason ticking things off was important to me this year. I learnt that unless you make a date night, the busyness of life gets away from you, I learnt that having love and happiness is what’s important in this world, I have learnt that being a stepmother, wow, it’s tough (especially to two girls, currently aged 11 and 13), and I have learnt the joy of having an instant and blended family, what more can you ask for.

So, what’s in store for the next year? I dare say we will check out the 5 year plan, see how we are going and get ready for another very cool year of happenings.
